Spring Celebration Tea with Riz Reyes

HERONSWOOD GARDEN, WA - May 4, 2019  

11 am – 2 pm

Spend a day at Heronswood, exploring the garden with afternoon tea—complete with a delectable assortment of savories, sweets, and teas—and learning from horticultural expert Riz Reyes! 

 

Riz will present “Floral Design as a Gateway to Gardening” in which attendees will learn all about the “slow flowers” movement that celebrates sustainability and the seasonality of local, fresh cut flowers and the farmers that grow them. Riz will create Heronswood-inspired floral arrangement using cuttings fresh from the garden that are sure to inspire any budding or seasoned gardener. 

 

Your ticket also serves as entry into a raffle to win a rare plant chosen by Heronswood’s Garden Director Dan Hinkley.

Spring Plant Sale 

HERONSWOOD GARDEN, WA - May 11 &12, 2019

This popular plant sale—happening over Mother’s Day weekend—features an excellent selection of plants from the region’s finest nurseries. In addition to the vendor plant market, attendees can tour the garden in its springtime beauty. 

 

Also: learn from the best with lectures featuring Heronswood founder Dan Hinkley, Heronswood Curator Nathan Lamb, and Marianne Binetti, horticultural expert and author of “Plants I Have Loved.” 

 

Entry for Plant Sale and lectures is free; garden entry is $10/adults and $5/kids aged 7-17. Children 6 and under are free. 

 

A great outing for moms, who get in free to celebrate their special day.

Propagation II: Root Cuttings, Perennial Division

Wednesday, May 22

10 am – 1 pm

Instructor: Dan Hinkley

 

This is the second class in our propagation series, but may be taken as a stand-alone class, if desired. Heronswood founder and Garden Director Dan Hinkley will lead a lecture and offer a hands-on demonstration dealing with the techniques of plant propagation by cuttings and division. Though he will share with the students the methods used on a nursery scale, attendees will also learn how to translate his recommendations to a less expensive, more informal “home gardener” format. The cost of the class covers instruction and materials for a hands-on propagation lesson.

Poulsbo’s Viking Fest is a celebration of Norway’s Constitution Day of May 17. In Norway, it is a festival of flags and colorful processions, where children walk to the music of marching bands.

 

Traditional Norwegian costumes are a prominent and common part of the celebrations. The festivities last from early morning to late at night. Parties with family and friends featuring traditional food and drinks are common.
